I've been a big fan of these vanilla slices from way back. I was in Sorrento last week and had to drop in for a coffee and VS. I'm always shocked by the price. It's now 12.50 for a coffee and VS, eat in. Maybe the size is a shade smaller than I remember but it's the taste that seems a little blander than I remember. Has anyone else found that they are not as tasty as they used to be?

went to Sorrento today. My daugter and I, after taking a few photos of husband, who rode around the bay, had a breakfast... and after that I remembered that someone said about the best VS place, so went there too and took away 2 slices. they costed us $17.50 ...at home we tried ...well, slices are huge (about 8cm thick), but tasteless... sorry, but even from any chinise bakery I can get tastier

Went to Sorrento for lunch yesterday and made our way up the hill for VS dessert- a practice enjoyed occasionally over the past 8 years. The smaller size portion (disappointing)is explained by staff as resulting from a change in oven and tray size; they implied the price was adjusted accordingly. From previous blogs here though, I don't think price has come down. When I mentioned 3 of us were sharing 2 slices, the staff brought another small slice to compensate - a generous offer, I thought. Have always enjoyed the taste of the VS at Sorrento, though it is still difficult to find a table and prompt service at peak hr. Tepid coffee was replaced, following complaint, with explanation that steaming hot coffee is no longer served, "for legal reasons" - there you go, another way that lawyers are stuffing up our worldly pleasures ... I wonder if the portion sizes have changed "for legal reasons"? I would probably return next time in Sorrento, but in the meantime, will certainly check out some the other suggested locations around Melbourne.

$8.50 a slice. Don't waste your time. These are pathetic. There is no hint of custard at all and really they are just cream and with no flavour. There are so many places that sell much better slices. Service is rubbish and almost arrogant
