The Lucky Coq has become a bit of a regular haunt for after work drinks/eats in the last few months. Having replaced the ol’ Duke of Windsor, the Lucky Coq is a funky little pub come bar come winebar come cheap pizza establishment. The decor is lusciously quirky – stuffed coqs (ahem…roosters) and ol’ kitchy 1950′s toys adorn the walls. There is lots of laminex, vinyl chairs, comfy lounges, subdued lighting and nooks and crannies. A DJ does his thing later in the night, setting the buzz higher. And the kitchen spins its pizzas till 2.30am.

Sunday to Thursday nights between the hours of 7-11pm, pizza’s are a crazy $4. And you are not getting crappy little spam numbers either. With delicious ingredients such as goats cheese, tallegio, proscuitto, mascarpone, saganaki, fresh rocket…whatever, it’s good quality stuff. And the bases are great – yeasty and crisp without suffering topping sag.

By the time the photo above was taken, the buddies and I had already polished off a pesto/goats cheese, a saganaki/green olive/lemon, and a quadrati pizza. It was only at this stage I remembered I had the camera in my bag (well…I was on the second glass of wine by then!). So I took a photo of the Agnello (spiced lamb, pinenut, sultana, pepper, rocket) and the Aglio Olio (olive oil, roasted garlic, chilli and parmesan). Also, right at the bottom of the photo is a dark chocolate and mascarpone pizza. Mmm…yum.

They also do ridiculously cheap lunch pizzas for $3. As such the place is chockers at this time. You’ll be fighting the suits for a seat!
