Happened upon a groovy little coffee spot in Elsternwick today that absolutely oozed a comfy funky vibe. But I don’t know whether I was lured in by the wonderful aroma of good coffee floating out the door, or the fact that a “devonshire coffee” was a delicious $5.
Serving and selling jasper coffee and small snacks, they also sell cacao chocolates (and we all know how good they are!). One can choose to sit inside on antique furniture and admire the wares for sale, including espresso machines, coffee (in huge sacks), chocolate, teas and other paraphernalia. Or you can move it outside onto the street and watch the passing parade.
Either way, this organic fairtrade coffee is a damn fine brew.

yeap i’ve been there once and it’s true the ambience and the coffee is darn good. plus the friendly staff and owners. Will go there tomorrow to visit again.
Thanks for your comments Anon. So how did your second visit stack up?
I used to work in Cherry beans and Cocoa. THey are lovely. That place, to work with. And the Laurent chocolates are amazing. That is a nicaraguan beans, the house coffe. Hi Carolina – thanks so much for the tips! I haven’t tried the New Guinean beans, so will give that a whirl next time. I’ll drink to you next time I go
It says it sells fair trade cacao, but service is very poor. I was served by a female staff who ignored me, and went on to serve other customers. When I told her she skipped me, she said she knew I was waiting. Strange how a cafe that proclaims its social justice position, but behaves in racist manner. It wasn’t the first time I was there and had dealt with the same staff before. But she never remembers me nor bothers to be polite. I’d be more happy wasting my money on another cafe.
Well Fay. I used to work that from jan to may 2007. And I don’t know who could service you so badly. I say sorry for this. I know they already close. But their coffee used to be much better thanany Gloria jeans, Hudson, blablabla.
They used to have just 2 staffs working, plus + owners. Mr. Collins and Ms. Winnie.
Can you describe this person? I don`t know who could be doe this. \Unfortunatelly they close.
Melle, Did you try the Guinean beans?
Have a g week!!
Not sure which beans I tried – it was so long ago now. But I do enjoy Jasper coffee, especially the Dominican Republic.
