		<description>Thanks for your comment Daren.  Actually EG and I went the other night as well, although we are now starting to order a la carte as opposed to the degustation these days.  We had the jamon with sea urchin ice-cream, a quail and quail egg wrapped in bamboo and fried in green tea tempura (omFg), the uni / eel starter (as above), the crab and veg tempura (we got a crispy batch), and nasi dengaku, a huge vertical round of eggplant housing a molten centre of kuzu miso sauce and prawns (absolutely fantastic!).  Then the usual miso (which was extraordinarily smoky - delicious!), and rice.  And a the little fondant pudding for dessert.  

I&#039;m always intrigued by what they come up with.</description>

		<description>Went there last night and had essentially the same banquet.  We didnt have the cod and tuna dishes, instead had a tempura lobster tail concoction in a witlof leaf, an egg illusion dish and a small snapper fillet served in a delicate consomme.  Its funny because I found last night that the Oxtail dish was possibly one of the finest things Ive eaten, wonderful flavour and texture and a joy to eat.  Similarly the Wagyu dish I really enjoyed.  The cheese mixture underneath i found worked really well with the flesh and the sticky sauce.  My criticisms of Shoya come down ironically to to the crab.  There is no doubt it is a wonderful experience to be able to graze on a massive crab protrusion like that and it was enjoyable, but the tempura coating was not as crisp as it should be  and the lobster dish we had had the same problem.   Also found some of the early dishes whilst tasty, finessed and skilful, were less than the some of their parts.  Dessert was good but nothing outrageous.  Overall, the oxtail, sashimi and the crab experience (despite flaws) mean it was satisfactory value, nothing more.  But definitely a pleasurable experience and a promising restaurant.</description>

I&#039;m so glad that you liked Shoya.  It is certainly one of my favourites - I think I&#039;ve become a familiar face around there now!

I must admit the service has noticeaby improved since I wrote this post last year.  They have some very professional and personable staff on at present.

The omakase is spectacular.  When I look back at each of those dishes, I can still taste them!</description>

		<description>It was great to meet you on Friday night :) Anna, Mike and I managed to score a walk in to Shoya on Saturday night and had virtually the same Omakase you&#039;ve reviewed here. The main difference being the dessert, instead of the cake it had a chocolate tofu mousse which was pretty good - a nice light finish to the meal, although a lot firmer than most mousse (probably due to the tofu). The service was fantastic also - probably because they weren&#039;t that busy. And the food wasn&#039;t cold...actually some of it came out a wee bit on the too-hot side.

Anyway, we felt that it rivalled Tetsuya&#039;s in terms of presentation and quality of food, with the added bonus of not feeling out-of-place-uncomfortable due to the casual feel of the restaurant. Absolutely loved the sashimi in the fish-bowl made of ice! Would definitely go again.</description>
