Another well known and favourite snack in Singapore would have to be the Old Chang Kee Curry Puff.
Old Chang Kee started way back in 1956 in a small hawker store in McKenzie Road. It was brought out by an enterprising chap in 1986, who then standardised/modernised the business.
Now it’s franchised…fifty Old Chang Kee stores can be found across Singapore. They sell all manner of stuff on sticks, savoury cakes etc. But their hallmark product is the curry puff (renamed Curry’O) – a pastry package stuffed with curried chicken, potatoes, sliced egg and herbs and spices. It’s shiok!

Mellie, all these posts about Singapore are making me VERY hungry and craving travel (this is bad, as I have not yet paid off my 2008 Japan trip).
But don’t think that means I want you to stop!
I want to go to Asia. And I love real curry puffs. And for that, I either have to see my family, see friend’s families or go to NT and eat at their night markets.
Sigh, which is the least painful?
Hi Mellie, you should try A1 curry puffs! They are really good, much better than Old Chang Kee. I really love the crispy texture of A1′s curry puffs. They have lots more flavours like sardine, black pepper chicken, chilli crab, yam, durian, and vegetarian ones. I find that OCK tends to have too thick crusts and its quality is much lower than A1′s.
Hey Jackie – I am likewise craving a bit of travel after reliving these delicious moments. And don’t worry, I won’t stop posting
Hiya Jess – hmm…tough call
Actually, we were up at the markets in Darwin a few months ago. Had a surprisingly kickarse laksa up there!
Hi Derina – thanks for the tip! We’ll definitely try it out on the next trip to S’pore.
You’re definitely making me drooool and missing Singapore loads. By the way, I just learnt to make REALLY GOOD curry puffs from the Jman’s Malaysian mom. I’ll post up pictures when I’ve got more time!
Oooh…you MUST share
