In celebration of the day the people of Paris stormed the Bastille in 1789, I share with you the mouth-watering Croque Monsieur from Creperie Le Triskel.
This grilled sandwich was first recorded on the menu of a Parisian cafe on the Boulevard des Capucinesas as far back as 1910, although its origin is a little unclear. One theory is that French workers, due to the lack of refrigeration, would store their ham and cheese sanga’s by the radiators, hence, melting the cheese.
Either way, the Le Triskel version had me exclaiming Mon dieux (well, moaning in absolute delight is perhaps a more apt description). Served on a dressed green salad, the nutty gruyere is au gratin’d till crunchy, and inside, shavings of ham and a thick bechamel sauce add to the soft sqidgy creaminess. C’est magnifique!

Mmm.
Oh yum! I could so handle that for brekie right now!!
that looks absolutely mouth-watering. may make a trip there for breakfast tomorrow!
Oh, why do you do this to me Mellie! LOL
It’s one of those delectable items that remain simple in their ingredients yet create such an impact on your cravings. Like right now, despite me being soo full from dinner, I’m now making plans to go there on the weekend and making myself a melted cheese/ham sandwich to try and compensate!! hehe
I was there yesterday and their galette L’Auvergnate was marvelous, and the vinaigrette on the salad was the best I’ve had in years. Will go back again.
