This post is wholly inspired by the lovely @essjayeff, who over at her blog essjayeats, threw out a challenge to delve into the depths of ones freezer to see what treasures can be found (that were perhaps forgotten).
So troops, what can I make out of this?
1. 1lt anchovy and soy bean stock (made by EG’s Mum)
2. 2 x fish cakes
3. 10 x fish balls
4. 2 x kingfish fillets
5. 6 slices of brioche (I’m thinking some fried breakfast brioche, @HardwareSociete style)
6. 3 x Milawa Chicken Thighs, skin on
7. 300ml chicken stock (made by @essjayeff)
8. About half a tin of leftover organic tinned tomatoes
9. Frozen durian
10. 1 whole smoked trout
11. Half a loaf of multigrain sourdough
12. 300g prepared turtle beans (made by me, Mexican style)
13. 250ml red wine
14. “Gypsy Pig” pinenut and rocket pork sausages
15. 200ml coconut cream
16. Udon noodles
17. Bean curd puffs
18. Dried shrimp (about a cup)
19. Ginger
20. Kaffir Lime Leaves
21. 2 x parmesan rinds
22. Spring onions, diced
23. Red chillies
Ahem. A rather mixed bag of Italian and Singaporean ingredients, huh?








I suggest – Laksa…(bastardised slightly) so spicy soup with bits!
Some of the stock .. the fish balls and noodles, kaffir lime leaves, dried shrimp, bean curd, ginger, chillies and spring onion!
Then, take some of the sausages out of their skin and make a pasta sauce with meatballs, red wine and tomatoes.
Maybe we should just swap freezers!
Oh – and I’ll come over for breakfast -0 Durian and coconut french toast?
What are turtle beans? (regardless they should be cooked with the rest of the sausages and served on sour dough for breakky)

Sounds like my freezer! I’ve recently returned back to the share house after six weeks house-sitting to find the freezer and pantry jam packed with random bits of food. My boyfriend is getting used to the “Hungry? I don’t know what this is but I’m sure it’ll be tasty!”
I’m not sure what you’d use the Durian with. Thats kind of the odd one out there. An asian style soup is a good option. A chicken and sausage hotpot perhaps? I’m having a bit of trouble visualising what the anchovy and Soy bean stock would taste like.
How on earth do you fit all of THAT into that tiny little freezer?!
Aside from the durian and coconut french toast, I like essjayeff’s ideas. A lot. Perhaps leave out the durian altogether – and I do mean, leave it out. Outside. Where the birds etc. can get rid of if for you!

Wish my fridge is that full. (I don’t like to stock food much so I run to the store everyday) And I cannot believe there’s Durian there. (even though I cannot see it) That fruit kinda stinks.
Anyway, all in all, I think it sounds like you can make some yummy Asian soup.
You’ve certainly got the makings of an asian inspired chicken noodle soup.
And how about a kaffir lime & coconut bread and butter pudding with the brioche for dessert?

So far I’ve made, as suggested, a huge hot pot (..that gets rid of all those fish balls/cakes, stock, noodles and chicken)
@essjayeff – turtle beans are commonly known as black beans. I got some from a Mexican supplier, and I cooked them up with onions, tomatoes and a ton of spices, such as cumin, mexican chilli etc. Good for tacos – which is what I did with them!
@p – anchovy and soy stock is surprisingly good. I was only introduced to it a few years ago when I met my husband (who is Singaporean). His Mum makes it. It is kind of bonito-y, with a nice honest beany/nutty flavour. It is clear like a consommé, but brown – like a light beef stock.
@Kate – ooh, love the sound of the kaffir lime, coconut brioche and butter pudding, perhaps with some durian for good luck. Could be awesome!!
