The buzz has begun, and it hasn’t even opened yet. But stay tuned, I have a feeling that The Greenhouse is going to be pretty interesting.

Nihonshu Shochu and Sake Bar

Oooh…I can’t wait for this one to open! Nearing completion, Nihonshu Shochu and Sake Bar is the new sister to Izakaya Chuji (165 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne).  I’ve been peeking through the window when I stroll past, spying a wonderful handcrafted timber counter being built before my eyes.  Mmm…I can imagine sitting at it eating [...]

Spied in downtown Osaka

Osaka and Melbourne became sister cities in 1978, which was our towns first sister-city relationship.  So I probably shouldn’t have been surprised to stumble across Melbourne House restaurant in downtown Osaka (right next to the Aquarium and Ferris Wheel). Specialities of the house included Australian Beef, and they even had VB!  Impressive.
On a side note, be sure to catch [...]

Potato Cream Maccha Omelette

Found this weird little treat at Greater Eastern on Russell St. It is a sweet and soft, delicious tasting (well, it says so on the pack!) potato cream maccha omelette. While the cream was obviously sweet, it was definitely potato flavoured which was a wee bit disconcerting. It felt like I was eating a [...]

Vora Cafe is an unusual little Korean place that sits quietly and without much fuss on Hardware Street. EG and I had walked past it many times but had never felt drawn in. To be honest, if often looked quite dead. From the street you [...]

Bon voyage tummy rumbles

tummy rumbles is taking a bit of a break - in Japan and Singapore!
We may try to post a few from the road, but to be honest there may not be too much time for that. But keep your eyes peeled for our return in Early November - there will be a plethora of gastronomic [...]

Madame Brussells Lane50 Lonsdale Street, MelbournePhone 03 9662 3334

“Cibo con amore” or “food with love” is the mantra at Espressino, a sophisticated and funky pizzetta, piadina and wine bar that caters to dainty public servants and office workers near the corner of Lonsdale and Spring. Located in Madame Brussels lane, it is the shining light [...]

Fifteen - lunch special

Basement, 115-117 Collins Street, Melbourne(enter through Georges Parade)Ph 1300 799 415

It has been almost a year since Fifteen Melbourne opened its doors, and I thought it high time I went back to see just how this little venture was going. I had noticed some heavy advertising in the newspapers of late, promoting a lunchtime special [...]
